Older and Wiser

Posted in family, family life, life with tags , , on April 5, 2008 by vbrice

I went out this morning with my dog’s and listened to more new birds that have arrived for spring. Last week the duck couple that frequents my neighbors pool liner came back. My neighbor has many overflowing bird feeders so they get plenty to eat and he doesn’t take his liner off early so they swim in the snow that melted in it. I heard one of my favorite birds, the robin. I love their songs. The grackles are pecking at specks. This year is going great as far as muddy feet from the dogs or maybe I am older and more tolerant. I was told by my cable guys that came to put in my digital phone and internet that Zeke is amazingly huge for a shepard. I looked at my lovely dog with new eyes. Why yes, he is huge and has huge feet. I do have to mop more with spring but this year I am older, wiser and complaint free! Alas, it has taken five years with the monster to realize he can’t help his size. I am just kidding, I love my dogs, hee hee.

more soon: off to enjoy some incredible weather!

Wisconsin’s Snowy Winter

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , on February 12, 2008 by vbrice

With fairly reasonable temperatures this is the winter to go sledding, skiing and all the other outdoor winter sports. I am a Mom and my sons and husband usually do the snow-blowing. I will make a path in the backyard for myself to go all the way to the back. My dogs like to go to the border of our yard to do their business so I have my doo container back there and my handy pooper scooper.  I pick it all up daily and with my work shoes on sometimes I need to have a path in order not to get my shoes soaked. I am luck enough to go home for my lunchtime and I let my dogs out then. My Shih Tzu’s have little bladders and they are so happy to see me then. I have really enjoyed this winter with the tree branches laden with snow and all. I think everyone in blog-land knows someone in Wisconsin that personally has had car trouble or driven into a ditch this year. My husband is an excellent driver but he works out in Denmark and the roads in the country this winter are real slick. He did drive our truck into a ditch and had to be pulled out.  A lot of his co workers had the same fate. This is a good winter for parents of little sledders to make hot chocolate for your little troopers when they come in all rosy faced and soaking wet.  I remember those times at my Gram’s home. We would all line up and climb aboard a huge toboggan. The hill seemed gigantic back then. I had my own sled with the steel runners  you could sit and steer with your feet. Going speedy down the hill and flying over a bump to land without crashing was our goal back then. We then would all go to Gram’s as her home was real close to the hill. My Gram always had hot cocoa on the stove ,the real homemade kind! I would be all excited and happy. My Gram would usually be pulling hot muffins out or freshly baked cookies. It was fantastic.

Meeting the Unknown

MuffinI have been enjoying my time on the Internet as of late. I have found new blogs to read and laugh over and others that remind me of my life when I had my sons all little and I was running around after them and trying to work. Ah yes, why did I always seem to have pets thrown into an already very busy life? I guess because I adore them and wanted to make a pets life better for them. I would rescue pets when I was real little and I tried to hide dogs and cats under my bed in my room. My Mom was very faithful in making us say our prayers before going to bed and I would rush through mine real fast in hopes she would not hear or see the animal. She always would find out and make a fuss and take the stray outside. I found our cat Minnie who ran away one winter on us way over by the school. I took her home and then she had a litter of kittens. We had four kittens we named Ennie,Meany,Miney, and Moe. We kept Moe and gave away Minnie and the rest as we were moving and my Mom let us keep him as he couldn’t have kittens I think. He was an all black cat and long haired. I grew up with him during my teen years and loved him alot. Someone ran him over and he came home all crushed but still alive, my Mom had to take him to the vet who told her that it was no life for him to be brain injured so he was put to sleep. I have two cats now,my older brother has a cat and my younger sister has a cat too.  My middle brother has dogs.  I think all of us grew to love animals and I think we all will always have at least one pet to love. I had my son give Zeke a bath today. It was well needed as he was getting too doggie smelling. My other two had baths given by me as I can handle them, they are tiny and I did that last week.

more soon: going to hit the hay with my little friends.

Farewell to 2007

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , on December 28, 2007 by vbrice

Alas ,tis time to say a fond farewell to 2007. What has this year done for you? What have you not completed? I will think back to January. I was not excited about the playoffs like I am now. My Packers were not in the playoffs last year. In February, I spotted Cissy. She was the littlest runt of the litter of my neighbor and friend, Pat. Pat told me her birthday was the same as mine!  I had to have her!  In seven weeks, I did go get her and she is a little sweetie. I then had two little puffy topped heads that ran through my home and I loved it.  In March, I ordered some trees from the National Arbor Foundation. I got them for planting in early May. I also got some rose bushes from my father.  I planted them and had a good garden in the summer too.  We set up a new pool this summer.  My husband made better steps and deck to get in  and out of the pool too.  My husband was in the bar outside of town and the bartender told him she had a litter of kittens that she really needed to give away as she had too many on her farm. In late July my husband brought home the littlest runt of her litter.  The bartender’s daughter picked out the cutest one for my husband she said. My son named her Muffin as he had never named a pet before.  She is special because she has fives toes on each paw and is a very pretty cat.  We had vehicle problems this year as well. We did purchase a new vehicle too this year mainly because of the problems we had with the other ones. We went to a family reunion this past summer as well. I saw family from my Mom’s side that I hadn’t seen since I was a teen. I had a great time as we traveled up to Munising,Michigan. It’s where my Mom was born. I got to see my Grandma and Grandfather’s grave-sites.  I had never met Everett when he was alive as he died from burns from a house fire, so I told him ,hi. My Grandma had died in 2006 and this was my first visit to her resting place. I also saw my Mom’s grave in Brevort,Michigan. It was a much needed trip. This year went by fast and I still am going to the doctor for my back pain. I hope next year I have good luck and good times. I wish all of you the same.

More soon: off to go figure out my new toy, a digital camera I got for Christmas.

What my day is going like.

Just wanted to talk today as I am checking my emails and busy with making my picks on my football lists I do online.I of course always pick my Packers.I got my grey Packers sweatshirt on and jeans.I figured since it was an away game I can wear grey, home games I wear my green! I have also tried to visit my friends blogs as they all are into the gadgets and all that I don’t have yet or I haven’t had time to try to figure out.I  have my coffee here with my french vanilla creamer, its a luxury I enjoy that no one else likes in my family so its all mine! I scrapped my hand on branches I was trimming yesterday in my yard. I still want to burn them in my firepit but it rained this morning so I probably will do it later in the week.I am going to have to go through my mail ,I procastinate on junk mail during the week so I have a bunch of stuff to recycle.I hope everyone is recycling, that junk you aren’t recycling is going to be here for your grandkids or ancestors so please do. I did my husband’s family tree to France.I told him that’s why he is such a good lover. My hot shower is wearing off and darn it I am feeling stiff. I must of overdid the yardwork yesterday.I will enjoy relaxing some while I watch the Packer game.I say that cause a Mom’s work is never done I will multi-task like I always do. My dogs are all sleepy this morning, except Zeke,my german shepard, his job is to stay alert and he does a great job being a guard dog.He is always on the lookout for someone to go outside with.He hasn’t slowed down in the 4 almost 5 years that we have had him.

more soon : going to eat a late breakfast.
